Some of my photos from @littleMix visit to Liberia for Sport Relief
Little Mix visit Y-Care International a Comic Relief funded project which aims to help improve living conditions in slum communities with the construction of water point and latrines - implementing positive changes. Several slums in Monrovia are located in precarious positions along the coast, on land that is highly susceptible to erosion. Within theses slums poor sanitation and water quality pose serious health risks for residents, as malaria, diarrhoea, cholera and other life threatening waterborne diseases are common.
Human development is more closely linked to access to water and sanitation than any other sector. Globally, every 21 seconds, a child dies from a water-related illness. Women are more than twice as likely as men to be responsible for water collection. 768 million people in the world who do not have access to safe water (around 1/10 of the worlds population) and 2.5 billion people not having access to adequate sanitation (almost 2/5’s of the world population) in Liberia this rises to 72% of the poputlaion not having adequate sanitation and 12% with a lack of access to clean water.
